MR14 Bulbs

If Thomas Edison could see the bulb world today, he would be proud. With so many different types and sizes of bulbs available, it is surprising that there remain a single dark corner on the globe. Among the more popular of bulbs are the MR14 bulbs. Available in a variety of types, these bulbs are efficient and functional in a variety of products.  

The MR in MR14 stands for multifaceted reflector. This is simply a reference to the way that the light is reflected in order to create a concentrated beam of light. The appearance of MR bulbs will look as though there are many different bends or curves on the inside of the bulb casing. This is what is being referred to in the term multifaceted. However, some MR bulbs are actually smooth. Regardless, they are still classified as MR bulbs though they do not have the same visual appearance.  

As for the 14 in MR14, this refers to the diameter of the bulb. The 14 is measured as 14/8 inches in diameter or 1.75 inches in diameter. This allows for the consumer to easily distinguish the size needed without too much confusion. Knowing the appropriate size of a bulb needed is of vital importance when searching for the right bulb for a product.  

The MR14 bulbs, like all bulbs, come in a variety of watts and voltages and functions. While some offer particular specifications, others may offer a different set of specifications. It is important to read the fine print on the product that will be using MR14 bulbs before picking the exact bulb needed. A little preliminary research will go a long way in determining the best bulb that will allow for not only the best lighting, but the best price point as well.
